  • The dataset contains records of nests of cliff-nesting species of high conservation priority, namely birds of prey and Black Stork (Ciconia ciconia) (Aves) collected in the lower valley of River Sabor (NE Portugal), in the scope of the long-term Ecological Monitoring Program (PME) of the Baixo Sabor Hydroelectric Dams (AHBS), promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. This dataset includes results of nest surveys made in and around the area affected by the dam, from May 2010 to June 2014. Data consists of observations of all nests of the target species found in the study area, which were followed throughout the reproduction period (March-August) of each year. The records include the number of young produced by each couple in each year. The target species were Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos), Bonelli's Eagle (Aquila fasciata), Griffon (Gyps fulvus), Egyptian Vulture (Neophron percnopteris), Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus) and Black Stork (Ciconia nigra). Additional species whose nests or potential nesting sites were also recorded, included Black Kite (Milvus migrans), Common Kestrel (Falco tinnunculus) and Eagle Owl (Bubo bubo). Due to the vulnerability of nest site locations of these species, the precision of the geographic coordinates was degraded to 0.01, according to the recommendations of Chapman & Grafton (2008). The dataset with the original (undergraded) coordinates may be provided upon request by the resource contact from EDP, who will define the terms and conditions for its use.

  • By behavioral observations and checking known nesting sites in the region breeding success of Common Sandpiper is closely monitored. Compiled data from breeding pairs 2004 to 2020 is available.

  • By behavioral observations and checking known nesting sites in the region breeding success of Golden Eagles is closely monitored. Compiled data from 6 breeding pairs 2005 to 2020 is available.

  • The dataset contains occasional records of cliff-nesting bird species of high conservation priority, namely birds of prey (Aves, Accipitriformes and Falconiformes), collected in the lower valley of River Sabor (NE Portugal), in the scope of the long-term Ecological Monitoring Program (PME) of the Baixo Sabor Hydroelectric Dams (AHBS), promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. This dataset includes results of surveys made in and around the area affected by the dam, from February 2010 to September 2014. Data include both occasional observations and observations in the fixed points used to monitor the target species, but performed outside the regular census program. Observations came from all the study area around the Sabor river, from its mouth up to 42 km upstream. The presence and identity of the birds seen were assessed by visual observation with binoculars and/or telescope. The records include taxa identified at the species level.

  • Yearly counts of typical and edangered/protected bird species in the Nationalpark (reed birds, shore birds/waders, herons, cormorants, farmland birds, terns, gulls, geese).

  • The monitoring of bird populations focused on wetland species. It included breeding bird surveys and bird migration (bird ringing) of species most common in the reed belt of Lake Neusiedl, and meadows surrounding the soda pans. Bird surveys of Biological Station Lake Neusiedl refer mainly to the INTERREG Project of “Vogelwarte 2” and were in close collaboration with the National Park “Neusiedlersee – Seewinkel” and “BirdLife Österreich”.
