The dataset contains records of terrestrial, aquatic and riparian birds (Aves) collected in the lower valley of River Sabor (NE Portugal), in the scope of the monitoring programs of the Baixo Sabor Hydroelectric Dams (AHBS), promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A.. Specifically, the dataset relates to monitoring carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of measures implemented to mitigate the impacts of AHBS. In this case, the mitigation measures refer to "MC1 - Compensatory Habitat of Vilariça Stream". The dataset includes the results of bird surveys made in the Vilariça stream from January 2013 to September 2014. Sampling was performed in selected points distributed along the stream, up to 5 km upstream of the mouth. The presence and identity of bird species were assessed by visual and/or acoustic observations, with binoculars. The records include taxa identified at the species or genus levels.

The dataset contains records of aquatic and riparian birds (Aves) collected in the lower valley of River Sabor (NE Portugal), in the scope of the long-term Ecological Monitoring Program (PME) of the Baixo Sabor Hydroelectric Dams (AHBS), promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. This dataset includes results of surveys made in and around the area affected by the dam, from February 2010 to September 2014. Sampling was performed in selected points distributed along the lower Sabor river valley, from the river mouth up to 42 km upstream. The presence and identity of birds were assessed by visual and/or acoustic observation with binoculars and/or telescope. The records include taxa identified at the species or genus levels.

The dataset contains records of Common Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis) and Dipper (Cinclus cinclus) (Aves) collected in the lower catchment of River Sabor (NE Portugal), in the scope of the long-term Ecological Monitoring Program (PME) of the Baixo Sabor Hydroelectric Dams (AHBS), promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. This dataset includes results of surveys made in and around the area affected by the dams, from August 2010 to September 2014. Sampling was performed in transects distributed along the lower Sabor river valley (and some tributaries) and in rivers Maçãs and Angueira, from the Sabor mouth up to 42 km upstream. The presence and identity of bird species were assessed by visual and/or acoustic observation, with binoculars. The records include taxa identified at the species level.

The dataset contains records of riparian bird species (Aves) of high conservation priority, collected in the lower valley of River Sabor (NE Portugal), in the scope of the long-term Ecological Monitoring Program (PME) of the Baixo Sabor Hydroelectric Dams (AHBS), promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. This dataset includes results of surveys made in and around the area affected by the dam, from February 2010 to September 2014. Data consists of observations of the target species (the Kingfisher and the Dipper) performed in fixed sampling points or transects directed to riparian birds, as well as additional observations. Observations came from all the study area around the Sabor river, from its mouth up to 42 km upstream. The presence and identity of bird species were assessed by visual and/or acoustic observation, with the support of binoculars. The records include taxa identified at the species level.

199 bird species have been recorded in the White Mountains area, with the majority of which (108 species) passing through during their annual migration. Only 67 species nest in the White Mountains' area (49 permanently and 18 as summer visitors), whilst 24 more species hibernate here. A number of birds of prey are included in the reproducing species as are rock-nesting species. Samaria National Park is home to three large birds of prey, ie the Bearded vulture, the Griffon vulture and the Golden eagle. The importance of the Park's role in birds' biodiversity is marked out by it's declaration as one of BirdLIfe International's Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas. A concise monitoring program is being conducted since 2013 to keep track of the species relative abundance and presence, with monitoring/sampling stations spread throughout the entire area pf the National Park, from sea-level to higher altitudes.

Data on bird presence and abundance in Doñana is available since the 50ties, even before its protection. EBD-CSIC started standardized monitoring by aerial counts in the 70ties, initially focused on wintering birds but since de early 80ties counts are conducted monthly, and up to 50 bird species are identified in 52 counting areas within the marshes. Terrestrial bird count of main bird concentrations of Doñana have been conducted at the same time (both EBD-CSIC and Park Management) but were not standardized until 2002 by EBD-CSIC. Since then, monthly surveys have been conducted covering about 87 water bodies of the marshes and from fixed observation points (up to 196 water bird species are included). Additionally, each month, a transect (30 km) count of birds (all non-passerine species and Corvus corax) present at the beach and sea shore is done by car. Furthermore, during spring, colonial water bird nests are located and chicks ringed when possible. Several colonies have been monitored since the 80ties. Non-colonial waterbird nests are located monthly during the breeding season using linear transects on horse in the marshes, totalling about 65 km. These transects data are being collected since 2003. Earlier data on non-colonial breeding waterbirds are more disperse, although ringing activities have been done since the 70ties on regular bases.

Yearly counts of typical and edangered/protected bird species in the Nationalpark (reed birds, shore birds/waders, herons, cormorants, farmland birds, terns, gulls, geese).

The monitoring of bird populations focused on wetland species. It included breeding bird surveys and bird migration (bird ringing) of species most common in the reed belt of Lake Neusiedl, and meadows surrounding the soda pans. Bird surveys of Biological Station Lake Neusiedl refer mainly to the INTERREG Project of “Vogelwarte 2” and were in close collaboration with the National Park “Neusiedlersee – Seewinkel” and “BirdLife Österreich”.
